Young At Heart Podcast 🎧

Your Back Yard wants to draw our attention towards their podcast ‘Young At Heart’, specifically their most recent episode titled ‘Ageism’.

The episode features Elizabeth Griffin from Leeds Older People’s Forum, and they discuss all things related to the topic, even offering the question ‘Can a young person be wise?’

They would love if we could check the episode out (See the link below), and share it with anyone who you think may be interested.

Shape Up For Surgery Leeds

Alexander Booth - a clinical leadership fellow at Leeds Teaching Hospitals - is working on a project called Shape Up For Surgery Leeds. This is a programme that helps anyone waiting for an operation to be signposted to resources that can help them get healthier. Currently, he is trying to promote this around different groups of people.

He saw our website and thought this might potentially be good for members. At the moment, he is looking at trialling this in the Seacroft/Crossgates area.

If this is of interest to you, please see his details below:

Need a Venue?

All Hallows/Rainbow Junktion in Headingley

We have a couple of spaces that we would love to use more. Our large hall holds about 100 people and the smaller chapel is suitable for approximately 18 people.

The hall has wonderful acoustics due to its wooden ceiling and also has a sound desk and microphones. We have plenty of tables and chairs and a kitchen with lots of equipment.

We are all on one level, with double doors and a disabled toilet.

There is parking on site for around 10 cars and no restrictions on the road outside. A note of caution with regard to Friday bookings: There is a very large mosque very close and parking on the street is not easy.

We have a price list, but we can also offer a bursary to help get your group up and running and will try and fit around any budget restrictions.

Here is a link to our calendar if you wish to find out what days might be available What's On — All Hallows Leeds

Age UK Digital Wellbeing Service is keen to work with U3A Leeds to assist with developing a digital course, and to offer support to any U3A Leeds members who may benefit from it.

They are often asked by older people if there is a course they can attend to get to know more about the digital world.

They offer free drop in sessions for anyone over the age of 50 who would like help with any laptop, tablet or smart phone related issues. This includes using the internet and emailing.

They offer drop-ins at their Digital Hub three days a week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The Service also offers Digital Champion training and support to any U3A members who might be interested. This could assist U3A Leeds to create our own courses around digital skills.

They also have some capacity for visiting people at home, if they have limited mobility.

There is also an online questionnaire where U3A members can register what digital areas they are interested in: https://forms.office.com/r/Npt2J4Xy5L
